Across this past year, the people who make Rewind what it is – writers, editors, designers, researchers, and more – have shared what it has meant to them.
“I have been with Rewind (pretty much) since the very beginning, and it has been so incredible watching it grow into print editions, projects, and even a national award! Working on the design team has meant I have been able to read and interact with so many outstanding articles. It is undeniable how much impact Rewind has had since its conception on the Warwick community, especially through its ability to give historians and non-historians alike a space to explore their interests in an academic but low-pressure way. I look forward to seeing how it grows over the next few years, even though my time at university is coming to an end!”
Gabrielle Skinner-Ducharme, Design Lead (2025-26)
“Looking back, what stands out is how much Rewind has unexpectedly shaped me. This is a group in which you can choose how invested you become, making its achievements that much more rewarding. I’ve absolutely loved being behind the scenes, giving life to an immense range of students’ interests through the article publication process, learning soooo many random things as a result. I hope Rewind can continue enabling all students to share aspects of the past they find so compelling, for generations to come!!"
Julia Zajac, Marketing Lead (2025-26)
“This year with Rewind has been amazing. Successfully applying for funding gave us the chance to launch Revolution Remixed, which quickly became a highlight for everyone involved. The creative workshops were fun, letting people try new things and think about the topic in different ways. Looking back, I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved, and I can’t wait to see what the new team does next year!”
Nia Belcher, Treasurer-Fundraiser (2025-26)
“Working at Rewind over the past year and a half has been a fantastic experience. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the hard work and the enthusiasm of so many talented students come together in a variety of different media and events. Providing the opportunity for students to lead a talk on their research in this year’s seminar series was a particular highlight. Rewind’s goal of providing a stress-free environment for the expression of historical interests will always resonate with me, and I’m excited to see the direction the new team takes it in over the coming year!”
Harry McNeill, Deputy Director (2025-26)
“Even though I only joined Rewind recently, I am so glad I was able to join such a tight-knit community! Although I was initially nervous to join, I was inspired by the amount of work put in and the passion in these projects. In my role as Marketing Officer, I have not only learnt a lot but have taken part in events that I did not even know I could do. I am super proud of the work that I have done but am super excited to take on even more exciting projects with the team!”
Sammi Rakkar, Marketing Officer (2025-26)
“Reflecting on Rewind at least for me is quite hard because it feels as though my time here has only just started. That being said this year has been filled with so many joys: I’ve met so many new people, done so many things I never thought I was capable of, and been a part of a whole new community – which has been so rewarding and refreshing. Rewind has bought me so many opportunities and I am incredibly excited to keep making sure that is the case for those who come to be part of it over the next year. Rewind made me fall in love with history and learning again – it has given me a place to try new things, to push the boundaries of history and challenge the historian's stereotype. Thank you for giving me the space to explore history in a multitude of ways! I only hope that next year we can continue to do that for more people than we have ever before!”
Lily Wilcock, Documentary Production Coordinator (2026)
“Since January 2025, I’ve been fortunate to be involved in a range of Rewind projects, from podcasting to (lots of) documentary research. As a non-history student, engaging with history (and honestly, history students themselves) has felt daunting. Joining Rewind, I have met some of the kindest and smartest people, who are generous in sharing their knowledge. Throughout my time at Rewind, I am grateful to have learned so much from the people around me, and develop a true love for history <33”
Mai Bennett, Lead Documentary Researcher (2025-26)
“Being part of the Rewind team this year as a Content Editor has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It has been great to see an increase in submitted articles from writers and wider participation, particularly as it allowed us to explore a broader range of historical periods and topics. I was especially proud of our success at the SPA Regional Awards, where we won Best Digital and were Highly Commended for Best Specialist Publication. I look forward to continuing with Rewind next year and building on what we’ve achieved as a team!”
Charlotte Roff, Content Editor (2025-26)
“I came to Rewind at a time when I still lacked experience in managing publications. I'm really grateful to Jakob for entrusting me at the time to become a Content Editor. What a ride it’s been since! I'm immensely proud of how far Rewind has come, and am glad to have been a part of it. I give my special thanks to both Lorna and Charlotte, you've been excellent to work with on the articles team and stepped up when it was needed most. I wish all the best for the new team and our writers going forward.”
Che Wheeler, Content Editor (2025-26)
“Being part of the Rewind team has been one of the highlights of my university experience so far! Starting as Design Editor at the end of my first year, I have been given so many amazing opportunities that extend far beyond the role itself. From attending and contributing to Rewind showcase events to the team's success at the SPA Regional awards, the experience has become so much more than I initially expected when signing up. One of the most rewarding aspects of being Design Editor has been the chance to engage with such a talented body of student work, while collaborating with such a hardworking team. I’m excited to continue with Rewind and see what further successes and opportunities lie ahead!”
Olivia Turnbull, Senior Design Editor & Publication Lead (2025-26)
When Rewind was founded in Summer 2024, it had next to nothing. What it did have was a genuine belief that student-led history could find wider audiences – and eventually prove itself to the people who made that belief worth having.
Two years on, Rewind has grown to include over 100 contributors, alongside articles, podcasts, roundtables, videos, two print editions, two regional awards, and a national award. None of it would have been possible without the people who wrote, created, and cared – achievements shared by everyone who has contributed along the way. To everyone who has written, filmed, designed, edited, organised, attended, read, or simply encouraged what we were doing: thank you.
To the team this year – in particular the leadership team of Gabrielle, Harry, Julia, Nia, and Olivia – thank you. And thank you as well to everyone who supported Rewind behind the scenes, whether through editing, organising events, contributing ideas, or simply giving their time and belief to what Rewind represents.
No publication has a guaranteed future. But what Rewind has, and has always had, is people who cared enough to make it work anyway. More than anything else, that is what has given and continues to give me confidence that it can continue far beyond the two years I've spent with it.
There will be a new team, with new ideas, ambitions, and directions for what Rewind can become. It now falls to everyone who has been part of Rewind to place the same faith in them that they placed in us.
Whatever comes next for Rewind will, as it always has, be shaped by the people who give it their time, energy, and passion for the past. Rewind is for everyone – whatever your background, whatever corner of history you care about. That is what made it worth building. That is what made it worth protecting. And that is what makes it matter.
Always on your side,
Jakob
